The ATH-ADX5000 is a full-size, over-ear headphone that completely covers the ears. It is equipped with exceptionally large 58 mm drivers. The headphone body is made from lightweight yet highly durable magnesium. Both the ear pads and headband are wrapped in Alcantara, a finely textured and extremely soft material that allows for long listening sessions without discomfort. It comes with a 3-meter headphone cable for convenient use, along with a carrying case for storage and portability.

Because the Audio-Technica ATH-ADX5000 has a very high impedance of 420 ohms, it must be paired with a high-powered headphone amplifier in order to perform at its full potential.

The ATH-ADX5000 is an open-back headphone design, featuring large rear ventilation openings with a honeycomb-style grille. This structure allows for excellent airflow while also reducing the overall weight of the headphones. The driver utilizes Core Mount Technology, which positions the driver at the center of the ear cup to improve airflow and significantly reduce resonance. The driver is mounted on a polyphenylene sulfide frame reinforced with glass fiber, allowing the driver to move with maximum efficiency. Notably, the entire driver assembly is constructed without the use of screws.

The ATH-ADX5000 includes a 3-meter headphone cable terminated with a 6.3 mm plug, making it compatible with most headphone amplifiers and home audio amplifiers. The connectors used at the ear cups are A2DC (Audio Designed Detachable Coaxial), which are extremely robust and durable. However, due to the high 420-ohm impedance drivers, a powerful headphone amplifier is required to achieve optimal performance.

Sound Quality

• Bass: The low-frequency performance of the ATH-ADX5000 stands apart from other open-back headphones. The bass has excellent weight and extends very deep, with deep bass that is rich in detail. Even subtle low-frequency textures, such as vocal hum or resonance, are clearly audible without effort. The upper bass is powerful and delivers strong impact, with a noticeable sense of air movement, yet it remains well-controlled and never overwhelms the vocals.
• Vocals: The midrange is exceptionally well-focused on vocals, making these headphones ideal for vocal-centric music. They deliver powerful dynamics with a sweet, natural tonal quality and excellent clarity. Breath sounds, background harmonies, and ambient details are reproduced with outstanding realism.
• Treble: As an open-back headphone, one of the ATH-ADX5000’s standout characteristics is its treble performance. The highs extend effortlessly and reach very far, with abundant sparkle and fine detail. The treble remains clean and precise, without grain or harshness. Instruments such as violins and saxophones are rendered with expressive realism and emotional depth.
• Soundstage: The soundstage of the ATH-ADX5000 is expansive and spacious. Details appear to float away from the listener’s head, with instruments arranged clearly and neatly in the rear layers.
