Intro

The FET-A78 is a multi-purpose stereo compressor and peak limiter. It adds an inimitable 1980s analog punch to a variety of individual instruments and can glue a mix like no digital tool.

Description

If you need some punchy, classic-style compression, the FET-A78 is definitely among your top choices. Its sound can be found on a huge number of your favorite pop and rock records, as it’s great for processing both individual instruments and full mixes. The FET-A78 is an incredibly flexible unit so don’t hesitate to slap it on anything from drums, guitars, and vocals to bass, or pretty much anything in your session. The limiter also won’t disappoint you while working on a group of instruments, such as backing vox, overheads, or crazy synth layers. You can use the FET-A78 in Stereo mode to treat Stereo tracks or apply it on overly dynamic bass lines to make them behave themselves in the mix, and so much more.

History

The original hardware behind our faithfully modeled FET-A78 needs no introduction. The stereo version of one of the most successful and sought-after Peak Limiter Compressors in the whole history of audio engineering is the standard for all top-tier studio facilities and productions. Designed with matching limiters to ensure the perfect balance of both channels when applied to stereo signals, the unit owes its legendary sound to its FET (field-effect transistors) which are here used as voltage variable resistors. We did our best to recreate this unique circuit architecture, which allows for some hardcore limiting without any distortion. With enough analog color but without sound artifacts and an amazing signal-to-noise ratio, this unit is suitable for both subtle and extreme compression. In both ways, it’ll leave a mark on your sound that will not remain unnoticed.
