Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X Open-Back Studio Headphones
The Beyerdynamic DT 900 PRO X is a high-performance open-back, over-ear studio headphone designed for mixing, mastering, and critical listening. Featuring the new STELLAR.45 driver with low 48 Ω impedance, it delivers studio-quality sound from a wide range of devices without the need for a powerful headphone amplifier.
Key Highlights
STELLAR.45 driver with 48 Ω impedance — easy to drive from many sources
Open-back design for a natural, spacious soundstage
Wide frequency response: 5 Hz – 40,000 Hz
Lightweight (~ 345 g without cable) with velour earpads for comfort during long sessions
Detachable, dual-length cables (1.8 m & 3 m) with mini-XLR connection and 3.5 mm / 6.35 mm adapters included
Features
Open-back, over-ear(circumaural) design, for an airy and transparent listening experience.
Uses STELLAR.45 dynamic drivers developed by Beyerdynamic for improved efficiency and lower distortion.
Low nominal impedance of 48 Ω – meaning many portable devices, interfaces, and DACs can drive them adequately.
Replaceable parts: headband, earpads, cable, and even drivers are serviceable.
Supplied with two detachable cables: • 1.8 m straight mini-XLR to 3.5 mm cable • 3.0 m straight mini-XLR to 3.5 mm cable • Includes 6.35 mm (¼”) adapter
Build & Comfort
Robust spring steel headband for durability and consistent clamping force.
Soft velour earpads that are breathable, comfortable for long use, and replaceable.
Balanced weight distribution (~345 g without cable) helps reduce fatigue during long sessions.
Minimalistic, functional aesthetic in matte black — emphasis on durability and function over flashy design.
Sound & Performance
Frequency response: 5 Hz – 40,000 Hz
Sensitivity / SPL: 100 dB SPL (1 mW / 500 Hz)
Nominal impedance: 48 Ω
Peak / continuous input power: short-term up to ~100 mW, continuous ~30 mW
Very low distortion even at higher levels, with good transient response and clarity in mids and highs
Strengths / Advantages
Easily driven by many devices due to low impedance — less need for a dedicated headphone amp.
Excellent for mixing and critical listening thanks to open-back design and neutral presentation.
Comfortable for extended sessions — good ergonomics, breathable padding, balanced clamping force.
Replaceable components extend life and reduce waste.
Flexible cabling options for studio and personal setups.
Target Users
Best for mixing engineers, producers, audio professionals, and serious content creators
Competes with other open-back studio headphones, offering lower impedance, replaceability, and modern driver design
As Rtings comparison notes, compared to its closed-back sibling (DT 700 PRO X), the DT 900 PRO X gives a more “immersive mixing environment” but sacrifices some bass and requires a quieter room.
