IK Multimedia returns with the new version of its highly popular iLoud studio monitor series: the "iLoud MTM MKII." While retaining the signature design of the original model, the inside has been completely upgraded to deliver deeper sound, higher volume, and even greater accuracy than ever before.
Powerful Sound Beyond Expectations from a Compact Speaker
With its MTM (Midwoofer-Tweeter-Midwoofer) design and dual custom 3.5-inch drivers paired with a 1-inch silk dome tweeter, the iLoud MTM MKII delivers bass frequencies down to 36Hz—something rarely found in speakers of this size. It also provides ultra-flat frequency response and linear phase performance, reducing ear fatigue during long sessions.
Powerful DSP Processing
The MKII version features a DSP chip that is twice as powerful as before, enabling precise control over frequency crossover, linear phase filtering, and time alignment—all with an impressively low latency of just 2.44 milliseconds.
Tune Your Sound to Any Space with ARC
Another standout feature is the ARC (Automatic Room Correction) system, which automatically adjusts the speakers’ sound to match the acoustics of your room in just a few seconds, ensuring accurate monitoring even in untreated spaces.
X-MONITOR Software: A Tool for Accurate Mixing
When connected to a computer via USB, you can use the X-MONITOR software to instantly emulate the sound of over 20 famous professional monitors, allowing you to A/B compare your mix across multiple systems with precision.
Other Key Features
Class-D amplification system with a total power of 100W (LF 70W + HF 30W)
Frequency response: 48 Hz to 28 kHz (±2 dB), extending down to 36 Hz at -10 dB
Connection ports: XLR/TRS Combo, USB-B, ARC mic input
Dimensions: 264 x 160 x 130 mm. Weight: 2.5 kg per unit
Who Is It For?
iLoud MTM MKII is ideal for musicians, producers, sound engineers, or creators who need high-quality monitoring in limited spaces or untreated rooms. Its automatic tuning features and the ability to emulate various speaker models make it a powerful tool for modern professionals.
Context: I’ve been mixing on Genelec 8040s for years, but they are back home and i was looking for smaller alternative here in Thailand. After seeing the rave reviews, I ignored my usual “audition first” rule and bought the iLoud MTM Mk2.
What’s good
Clarity & detail: The mids and top are very revealing with solid imaging and good stereo separation at typical nearfield distances.
Where it falls short
Real bass isn’t there: Despite the spec, they fall off hard below ~60 Hz. Compared to my Genelec 8040s, the low end feels anemic and lacks authority.
Back port issues: Attempting to run or calibrate them toward 50 Hz exposes a nasty chuffing/rattling from the rear port. Practically, you cannot set or trust them at 50 Hz and below.
Bottom line
Great clarity and imaging, but the claimed low-frequency performance didn’t show up and a sub must be purchased as well, moving these speakers to the Genelec price-range.
